The SIA Envoy Team

Andre Woodhead is the 34 yr old head of the SIA-ET. He is dedicated to his job, very serious and considerate. He considers himself to be as much a native of Poseidon as any of the Natives, having been one of the first children born on Poseidon 34 yrs ago when Re-Contact occured. He makes sure that the Natives he deals with know this, hoping they will feel some kinship with him. He has only seen Earth once and recently, having travelled there a few years ago on pilgrimage to Mecca.

Andre hopes to convince the Islanders that the GEO is on there side and is no threat to them. He will happily offer them data-spikes containing the last 84 years of history on Earth and Poseidon which they do not know, and offer them an uplink to the growing CommCore network currently supported by the satellite orbiting the planet. However, if they accept CommCore access, it will be infrequent and difficult, and they'll be totally cut off from it during the summer storms. Nevertheless, they will have some recourse to electronic communication with other linked Natives, and they will learn of recently history.

After first contact, Andre's role is over unless the Natives contact him for help.

Leslie Singer is the 49 yr old post-1st contact HCHR officer. She will not be involved until Biogene apply for survey information after they buy the results from First Contact. Leslie hopes that the settlement will not be drastically bothered by the Incoporates, but when Biogene apply to survey the island, she will be intent on providing professional and objective help to both groups, informing the islanders of their options. Her main aim is to integrate the islanders into the new world she helps to introduce them too. She hopes to show them all their options, and will be pleasently surprised by their intelligence and skills, offering them jobs with the GEO and encouraging them to help Foueda. If they *do* help Foueda she will be more helpful towards them, despite her attempts at being objective. If they oppose Biogene, she will be less favourable, fearing more Native trouble that could be perceived as her fault.

Leslie spends most of her money on cosmetic surgery to attract rich lovers and stay good looking. She likes her work, and expects everyone (including Biogene) to follow the rules.

Purity is the 41 yr old Native Representative, who's role is to offer legal advice and provide information about native support networks. Purity knows a great deal about how the GEO, Incorporates and Natives have interacted thus far, and often acts as a qualified lawyer on behalf of Natives whos rights are being violated and land stolen. She was involved in the Stone Bridge Massacre case of 2198 (see BP 1st ed. p.72), and takes a hard-line against most Incoporates. She is practical though, understanding that they are here to stay, but hoping that the GEO remains powerful enough to keep them controlled. Purity hopes to work towards forcing Incoporates to maintain sustainable developments and to presever Native territories and culture.

Purity is short, bald-shaven, light-black and harmless looking. She uses this to her advantage, allowing people to underestimate her, or treat her with indifference. She then shocks them with her tough mind and thorough understanding of GEO law concerning the Natives. She has little time for intimate relations and oftens misses her Native tribe, who she visits often. Her most attractive feature is her large mouth and big, shaply and dark lips.

Purity is fitted with a translator to facilitate interaction with re-discovered native settlements.

Madgi Goillart is the 74 yr old head scientist who leads the initial survey of the Island with the Enovy team. Her survey is non-invensive, mainly scands and samples, and the Islanders aren't likely to notice it. She may ask them questions about the Island if they are friendly, and is willing to tell them what she is doing - a simple survey as is common practice. Madgi stays out of politics and has built a mental ivory tower for herself. Science is her main and ambitious interest, and she is busy trying to make a name for herself and build a reputation amongst the growing academic community on Poseidon. She hopes to make some discoveries - easy to do on an alien world with "unexplored" and "unchartered" islands like this. Madgi will be very interested in the Islanders own research, and if anything strikes her as novel, she'll appropriate the data if she can.

Magdi is cold and impersonal, though she can pretend to be nice and polite when she wants something. She is not rude or malicious though - mainly disinterested in some things, and distracted by her scientific concerns.

Ratu Foueda is a 29 yr old anthropologist. He's a kind looking young man with floppy dark brown hair, plae skin which he keeps slathered with sun-block and old-fashioned clothes who had just finished his PhD. He specialises in isolated Native settlements and is sure to find the Islanders fascinating. He is open, generous and honest - feeling that these traits can only help his studies. He is sympathetic to the destruction of the Natives culture and the appropriation of their properties, and its possible he might get emotionally involved with them. This is likely to involve promoting their case in academic circles and writing extensively about them. He believes the Natives should be left completely alone if they so wish, believing in their inviolable right to self-determination.

The GEO won't look kindly on on these extreme politics, prefering integration and cosmopolitanism, not seperatism. Ratu is extremely philosophical about human cultures, and is fascinated by the basic and generalisable human experiences of birth, sex and death. He feels that diversity and freedom are the most important ideals to uphold, but won't be prepared to die for them. He is a writer - and a good one - and though he braves isolated Native cultures, he has never had experiences with violent confrontation having been lucky and likable. Ratu theories need refining and he has not yet enjoyed a lot of acdemic respect, though his doctorate was well received.

Ratu is very adventurous and willing to try anything several times. He has a flexible view to any belief system, despite his own ideals, viewing opposition as valuable and inevitable. He is hard to shock as a result, and the Islands practices will certainly not bother him at all.

Biogene Survey Team

John William Parkinson-Gates is a 23 yr old transhuman and Biogene survey manager from Maine, USA, and this is his first major survey. As such, it is very important to him, and he wil do all he can to ensure its success. John (or "Johnny" to his friends and family) is a very successful and ambitious manager, and though he gained his huge salary and position partially through nepotism, partially through savoir-fare, but he is also competant, cunning and amoral.

Johnny is devilishly handsome and extremely charming. He can talk cleverly about most things, is a clever flatterer and awful vain and egomanical. His many lovers, the blindness of his beloved sister Elizabeth and his important position inflate this all the more. Johnny has a very good sense for dealing with people of all kinds and most people like him unless he turns on them - and when he does it is devastating. Johnny pulls no punches against enemies, striking first and hard to eliminate them immediately. He can be rash though, and he has a terrible temper which is uncontrollable when he is driven to a rage. This lead to him to slay his girlfriend and her lover when he was 22, a killing which was hushed up by the rich Biogene family his sister Elizabeth married into, which nevertheless lurks like a spectre over his image and his future.

Johnny was kidnapped by a nomadic street gang shortly after this time when he fled Maine. The gang travelled the Central Desert of the US in their armed and armoured cars, intending to get a hefty ransom. Instead, the gung-ho Texan family Johnny's sister married into rescued him in their own armoured vehicles, though not before Johnny had been terrorised and witnessed brutal acts of road-fights and killings he had only seen on TV. Afterwards, they cajoled him into joining them, and Johnny spent some weeks on the US's most dangerous and lawless roads, risking his life fighting psychos because his brothers-in-law thought it was fun.

Johnny had never been stable before this time, having been deeply scarred by the suicide of his depressive mother. He had always blamed his patriarchal father for this, causing a rift in his family between him and his older brother who supported his father. His younger sister Claudia avoided the fighting and turned to secretive and promiscuous relationships and drugs to hide her pain, whilst Elizabeth battled constantly to keep the family together - being a reasonable and sensative young women, loved by the whole family.

This is the origins of Johnny's violent temper and rage, but also a deep despair. He feels that only Elizabeth truly loves him, and this is supported by the fact that she rarely criticises him, and makes excuses for him, even when he beat an ex-girlfriend on Earth after his kidnapping. If Elizabeth were ever to break with him, he would be devastated. If he were to live without her love, he would become a monster, malicious, unloved and hateful.

Johnny is strangely fearless at times an occasionally sadistic, allowing him to pull-off some audacious plans. He is also very strong, having worked in the gym and taken combat training and paying for his own transhuman surgery. Dangerous and sly, Johnny will do anything to protect his sister, almost anything to ensure his own prosperity and a great deal to be a success within his family and Biogene. Social status means a lot to him, so he is fashionable, unemotional and slick.

Elizabeth Buckminster is an 18 year old and newly "re-born" transhuman. She is Johnny's youngest sister. She recently married into one of Biogene's executive families, who paid for her treatment, and arrived on Poseiden recently to tag-along on her brothers work which is always mobile and explorative, giving her the opportunity to see a great deal of Poseidon. Her young, new husband died just a year ago whilst jousting against scum on the roads of the US. Against his families wishes liked to take risks and seek thrills. His explosive death and obliteration struck a grevious blow to Elizabeth, and she is still depressed and bereaved, hence the trip to Poseidon in the hopes that it will give her some comfort.

Her family is afraid for her saftey he has provided her with an excellent bodyguard who is always with her. Elizabeth has a strong sense of morality and justice, but does not yet realise how amoral and injust her brother is. It will be a terrible shock when she does, and she will make excuses until the day when it is no longer possible. This will aggrieve her again, and may lead to terrible despair. Until then, she is rather naive and things all is well on Poseidon for most people. She thinks Biogene is legitimate, probably more so than the GEO. She find Poseidon exciting and beautiful, which is helping with her grief and depression. Lizzy will adore the Natives Island, falling in love with it and will seek to protect it if she is not fooled by Johnny and realises it and the Natives are threatened. If lizzy becomes a great problem, Johnny will send her back to Cliffside where she has a new home. There she will contact radical Native resistance groups and try to help the Islanders. Later she will return to them, and try to help, perhaps even breaking with Johnny.

Liz will only change if her eyes are open though, and the more she sees the truth about Johnny and Biogene, the tighter she will try to close them. However, when the evidence in inexcusable and undeniable, anger, hurt and her own kind nature will drive her to do what she thinks is right - help the exploited natives. She may even take up arms to do this, and will certianly take great risks.

Elizabeth's Bodyguard is also hired to look out for Johnny, though secondarily.

The Missing

Kato, Tom, Jonah, Omar, Francis, Suhad, Angel, Janice, Simone and Akira are the 10 strong members of the hunting part that went missing 17 yrs ago. Most are the parents of many of the Islanders.
