Sometimes domestic bliss is hard to attain, especially when sharing your house with cats. All those tiny creatures with big personalities can create a lot of stress. I recently adopted a new kitten, and my older cat was less than pleased with this new addition. After a week of hissing, growling, and swatting, having tried talking, loving, and bribery with treats, I finally decided it was time for some magick. For harmony I like the colors of blue and green, with perhaps a touch of rose for love and compassion. I created a sigil
of my intent from these colours, charged it, and placed it in a blue bag with some harmonious herbs (I like lavender, aloe, and chammomile, with some rose petals for love. ), then placed the bag over the door. Chammomile and lavender are great incenses for calm and I've been burning these regularly. One of the most important aspects of the ritual is to create my harmony within myself. Balance is something I've been striving for anyway. Balance is not synonymous with calm. For me balance is perfectly symbolised by the Justice card of the tarot
, and more specifically the symbol of the Scales. The Scales are not calm, they are not static. They are actually very fluid and flexible. They adjust. In the Thoth Tarot, Crowley renamed this card Adjustment. Maintaining balance in one's life is not the ability to keep a zombie-like smile on one's lips in the face of adversity. It is not accepting everything with a hypnotic calm. Balance is actually very dynamic, it requires flexibility and stamina. It also requires the ability to see and clearly analyse one's situation. The figure of Justice is often pictured blindfolded, representing the adage that justice is blind. But Justice isn't blind, it sees very clearly. The blindness is to the surface aspects of any matter. The sight, the clarity, embodied by Justice is represented by the sword. The sword has long been associated with air, the element of knowledge and the mind. the sword cuts beneath the surface, dissects and analyses. The sword represents cutting to the heart of the matter. So the Justice card represents a deeper kind of seeing than can be accomplished with just the eyes, it represents a clearer knowledge, the ability to not only see the causes and effects of one's situation, but also the ability to adjust in order to maintain balance and harmony.
