Casting a Joyful Spell

Today witches all around the world will be casting a spell for peace, prosperity, and goodwill, as organized by the Witchschool. I will, grudgingly, join them though I don’t have much hope for the outcome.

Remember Harmonic Convergence? Yeah, load’a good that did.

I’ll feel guilty if I don’t join in this outpouring of good will, but I don’t expect to change the world.

I’ve stated before that I like a good global experiment now and then, and I am participating in Steve Pavlina’s Million Dollar Experiment

So why do I expect the Million Dollar Experiment to work and not the world peace spell? Well the main reason is that Steve’s spell (and yes, it is a spell. What is Magick, after all, but “the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity to will”?) is a group effort that is meant to enhance the lives of the participants. A group of people who are helping each other to acheive a common goal through magick (or, as Steve would have it, affirmations).

But the goal of today’s witch spell is to force peace on a world that obviously, at this point in time, is not ready for peace. I, as much as anyone, would love to see peace in the world, but that would mean changing the consciousness of a hell of a lot of people. Or, worst case scenario, something would happen like in that episode of the X-file, when Mulder wished for world peace and everyone disappeared. Thats about the only way you’re gonna get world peace.

But, if peace comes only to those who are participating in the spell, then it will still be well worth the time and effort.
