There is a bucolic island off the coast of Maine that is known for its fairy houses. What is a fairy house? The houses are places for fairies to visit that are created from natural products.

Depending on where you live and what season it is, your fairy shelter could be built from stones, seashells, cat tails, bark, branches, moss, hay, berries ? the options are endless. The builder is not to injure any plant or creature in order to build his or her house.

New Hampshire author Tracy Kane explains it best in her children?s book titled ?Fairy Houses.? In the story, a girl visits the island with her parents and builds her own fairy house while there. The story is about her building and improving her house in hopes of seeing a fairy.
