The Doomsday Clock, the universally recognized metric of nuclear
danger, is ticking forward to signal what its keepers say is the most
perilous time since atomic bombs were unleashed on Japan.

On
Wednesday, The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the academic journal
whose experts oversee the clock, will advance its minute hand closer to
the apocalyptic midnight hour. By how much is not yet known.

The
clock last moved — to seven minutes to midnight from nine — in
February 2002 in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the anthrax
sc
