We witches were everywhere in October. I’m mostly pretty good at dealing with the omnipresence of graphic depictions of old women in pointy hats this time of year and have been known to joke that, during leaf season in WNC, witches are so popular and beloved — we’re even the decorations!

When I got gas for the car recently, there were comical green-faced witches decorating the counter at the convenience store.

Caricatures abound

The drugstore I use has more witches as decorations than I ever remember seeing before, and a little girl told me that she couldn’t wait to go trick-or-treating dressed as a witch.
